Shanghai’s people on the move
This photo project focuses on the people of the city and tries to capture the moving part of Shanghai’s street life. The movement is horizontal. To capture this best, an analog wide format camera was selected. By intentionally choosing long exposure times, the movement is not instantly frozen. It is traceable. Every image captures a period of time. It is condensing a filming sequence into one single image. There are the fast movements, which anonymously blur the crowd into one constant stream, not being able to recognize the individual any more. And in between there are the slower movers, being able to be distinguished from the crowd, but still too fast to be identified. And there are the static ones. They are the bystanders, the observers, the anchor points. They join the viewer in their intention watching the scene.
